In its most basic guise, podcasting is a
technology that allows people
to receive content from the Internet without
having to download it
themselves, a concept called time-shifting. You
tell your computer
(via a program called a "podcatcher," or less
poetically, a "news
aggregator") what shows you want it to collect and
presto! The new
stuff flows into your MP3 player while you sleep:
free, noncommercial,
unregulated audio. No jingles, no corporate
playlists, no pesky FCC
regulations
